AIA Launches Competition to Design Architect Barbie’s Green Dream Home

Growing up, some would say I was a typical girl- obsessed with pink and anything Barbie related.  I would love to dress Barbie up for her dates with Ken in the latest fashions.  My parents had a nice supply of remnants of wallpaper and carpet in their basement.  Yellow and orange shag and mirrored cane wallpaper were amongst the selections.  So I designed my own Barbie Dream House out of these remnants along with old shoeboxes and whatever else I could find and glue together.  Barbie and Ken lived happily ever after in their Dream House I created and later in my life- to no one’s surprise- I went onto practice Interior Design.

On July 12th, The AIA and Mattel will announce the five finalists for their “Design a Dream House for Barbie Contest”.  The contest celebrates the release of Architect Barbie, the brand’s ‘career of the year,’ Barbie enters the design field on the 125th anniversary of women’s acceptance to professional architectural associations. The doll will be available August 2011 at retailers nationwide. Click here for more information from AIA.
