A Celebration of Food and Art at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park

Last night we celebrated food and art at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park.  Aria’s wonderful new Chef Beverly Kim paired dishes with Matthew Lew’s Asian-inspired artwork including: vegetarian bibimbap arancini; quail egg, kimchi and mung bean pancake with crispy pork belly; and togarashi crusted big eye tuna with a yuba crisp and red onion marmalade.  The event kicked off with a press preview featuring one-on-one time with Beverly and Matthew for area editors and writers.  The main event hosted members of NEWH, including 50 local designers and representatives from the hospitality industry.  NEWH is the premier networking resource for the hospitality industry, providing scholarships, education, leadership development, recognition of excellence, and business development opportunities.

The event featured cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres in Aria Bar, a tour of Fairmont suites where Matthew’s art is displayed, the Gold Lounge, the Fairmont mySpa as well as nine pieces of art from Matthew’s latest show Chicago Pop.

About Matthew Lew’s Fairmont Commission:

Lew recently completed a commission for the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park featuring 60 original cityscapes that now grace the property’s luxury suites.  These 3 x 5-feet canvases offer Lew’s unique interpretation of the iconic city skyline as seen from the Adler Planetarium.

Lew also depicts details of Millennium Park, including the gardens, Pritzker Pavilion and the Fairmont Chicago.  Each piece brings together a unique combination of shapes, patterns and bold colors.  Furthermore, each painting is united by Lew’s incorporation of water from Lake Michigan, imbuing each piece with a true Chicago spirit.
